It was definitely a happy day! In the past 9 months, I have been to countless doctors' appointments and given many vials of blood for labwork. My body has endured many months of the infusion and ingestion of toxic chemotherapy drugs, and most recently has received high dosage radiation for 7 weeks. I can now say I am done with all of that. The road ahead involves 10-15 years of taking a hormone therapy pill (tamoxifen) and reconstruction surgeries. Really, that seems like a piece of cake compared to the road behind me. This brings me great joy. God was with me through every detail of that trial. I saw Him in everything! As hard as it is to say, I think my soul needed to go through this difficult trial. I have a renewed faith and appreciation for every single detail in life. I am happier than I have ever been at any point in my life.
At my doctor appointment with my oncologist yesterday, she mentioned some of the side effects of the Tamoxifen. She said that, like chemotherapy, some of these side effects included depression and emotional outbursts, crying, etc. I was able to share about my peace, joy and happiness. I am certain that this will only continue if I can keep focus on the things that matter during the time that God has gifted me here on earth. Colossians 3:2 says, "Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things."
So, I press on, with 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 in mind:
24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. 27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
Over the next few months, I am hoping to get my energy back. My radiation oncologist said that it takes patients anywhere from 2 weeks to 9 months following radiation to regain their energy. My energy is at its lowest it has been for the entire 9 months of treatment right now. But, I am sure it will pick back up soon. The doctor said that since I am forced to be active (with watching the kids), my energy level should increase sooner. Also, my white blood counts are very low, so that may also be attributing to my low energy level. But, my skin is healing very nicely! Everything only gets better from here!
Below is a video of Luke helping me "ring out" of my final radiation treatment.
Thank you for your continued prayers!
